Accurate selection to start your journey of skin cleansing and care
In daily skin care, it is very important to choose a facial cleanser that suits your skin type, and the choice of surfactant is one of the key steps. Different surfactants have different characteristics and functions. Only by choosing according to your skin type can you achieve good cleaning and skin care effects.

1.Dry skin
Amino acid surfactants are ideal for dry skin, such as sodium cocoyl glutamate and sodium stearoyl glutamate. These surfactants are gentle and have good moisturizing effects. While cleaning the skin, they will not take away too much oil from the skin, and can keep the skin hydrated. For example, sodium cocoyl glutamate will not make the skin feel tight during the cleansing process, but can also provide moderate moisture to the skin, making the skin soft and smooth.
In addition, some facial cleansers have moisturizing ingredients such as sodium hyaluronate in addition to mild surfactants. Sodium hyaluronate has a strong moisturizing effect and can replenish moisture to the skin after cleansing, keeping the skin hydrated. Combined with mild surfactants, it is very suitable for dry skin.
2.Oily skin
The sebaceous glands of oily skin secrete vigorously, and the skin surface is often shiny and easy to absorb dust. The pores are relatively large, and it is more likely to have problems such as acne and pimples. Therefore, oily skin needs products with strong cleaning power, but it is also necessary to avoid excessive cleaning that may damage the skin barrier.
Soap-based surfactants have strong cleaning ability. Sodium laurate and sodium palmitate can be used occasionally, such as 1-2 times a week for deep cleaning. Sodium laurate has strong cleaning power and can quickly remove dirt and excess oil, but moisturizing care is required in time after use.
SLS/SLES-type surfactants, such as sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) and sodium laureth sulfate (SLES), have good foaming properties and strong cleaning power, and can be used appropriately. However, since they are irritating to the skin and easily dry the skin, oily skin should also be used with caution, and moisturizing should be done after use.
3.Combination skin
Combination skin usually has a strong oil secretion in the T-zone (forehead, nose, chin), while other areas such as cheeks are relatively dry or normal. This skin type needs a product that can balance the cleansing power, taking care of the cleansing needs of the T-zone without making the cheeks too dry.
You can choose a facial cleanser with amino acid surfactants as the main ingredient, such as potassium cocoyl glycinate, for full face cleansing. In the area with more oil secretion in the T-zone, you can occasionally use a small amount of soap-based (such as soap-based facial cleansers with palmitic acid/stearic acid/myristic acid/lauric acid complex ingredients) or SLS/SLES-based facial cleansers for local cleansing, and then pay attention to moisturizing both the T-zone and other areas.
You can also prepare two facial cleansers, one is a mild amino acid-based facial cleanser for drier areas such as cheeks, and the other is a facial cleanser with stronger cleansing power (such as containing soap or SLS/SLES-based surfactants) for the T-zone.
4.Sensitive skin
Sensitive skin has a weak barrier function and is easily stimulated by external factors, resulting in allergic reactions such as redness, itching, and stinging, so it has extremely high requirements for the mildness of cleaning products.
Amino acid-based surfactants are the first choice for sensitive skin, such as sodium methyl cocoyl taurate and sodium lauroyl sarcosinate. They are less irritating to the skin and have good skin affinity. They can clean gently and avoid discomfort such as allergies. The foam is delicate and rich, and the use is comfortable, which can protect sensitive skin.
APG-type (alkyl glucoside) surfactants are also very suitable for sensitive skin. It is a mild and environmentally friendly ingredient synthesized from natural fatty alcohols and glucose, and has extremely low irritation to the skin and mucous membranes. It has excellent cleaning ability, can remove dirt and excess oil, maintain the moisture balance of the skin, will not damage the barrier of sensitive skin during cleaning, avoid allergies, and has good compatibility. It can work with other mild ingredients to improve the friendliness to sensitive skin.
Facial cleansers containing soothing ingredients such as chamomile extract and allantoin are also suitable for sensitive skin. Chamomile extract has soothing, anti-allergic and anti-inflammatory effects, which can relieve sensitivity and inflammation. Allantoin can moisturize, soothe, promote wound healing, reduce skin irritation caused by cleaning, and make the skin more comfortable.

In short, people with different skin types should choose facial cleanser surfactants according to their skin characteristics to achieve a balance between cleansing and skin care, laying a good foundation for skin health. In the next blog, I will tell you how to judge your skin type, let's look forward to it!
